Hello! I’m Annamarie van der Meijden, and I recently moved from Canada to the Netherlands to continue my journey with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). I was born in Arnhem but spent my early years in Uganda, where my parents were missionaries. That is where I first saw the life changing impact aviation has. MAF regularly flew over our compound and my family often relied on them due to insecurity and poor roads.

Growing up as a missionary kid in different countries, I was surrounded by incredible people who showed me how God works through those who step out in faith. This shaped my passion for wanting to help others using aviation. I always dreamed of becoming a missionary pilot and aircraft mechanic, but this dream felt too out of reach – until I met MAF founder Stuart King in 2015. His words, “If God gives you a dream, you go for it… and MAF needs more women pilots,” gave me the encouragement I needed to pursue this calling. This journey of faith has now brought me back to the Netherlands.

During my training, I worked with MAF in Uganda, Liberia, and Indonesia—experiences which have taught me so much and helped better prepare me. The people I met and worked alongside have played a huge role in shaping this path. Now, as a licensed mechanic and commercial pilot, I’m excited to be joining MAF and be a part of this life impacting work.

Every step of this journey has shown me that God weaves things together in ways I could never have planned. I’ve come to firmly believe: no dream is ever too big when Jesus is at the centre of it!

Would you join me on this adventure? Together, we can bring hope and share the message that Jesus is truly alive—both here in the Netherlands and around the world.
